So, you’ve got a great idea that you’re passionate about, and you want to share it through blogging. Then, set up a blog and twist it as per your skills. That’s how you make your very first post. Add some catchy headings. Edit the article and add links to your favorite websites. Now you wait for the likes to roll in. But, they never do come in. You’re racking your brains thinking of why your post isn’t getting the attention it deserves, but you have no clue. Don’t delete your blog just yet! You might be making some basic blogging mistakes that are easily avoidable.

While it is essential to write about trending topics, they usually stay relevant for a limited time. So, for posts with lasting value, you should use ‘evergreen’ content. These topics are popular, no matter what the situation is. The best part about using these topics is that they bring a surge in search traffic. If you’re still unsure, then you can use an ultimate list of blog post ideas to bring forth your creativity. These blog posts will get your readers’ attention soon, so don’t expect overnight results.

  1. CATCHY TITLES, CATCH MORE (TRAFFIC) FISH 

I might need to apply this one to myself. Give me brownie points for trying, though! Exciting titles, headings, and subheadings make your content pop. According to research, headlines may vary traffic by 500%; short ones with numbers get the most clicked on the internet. It also pays to use alliteration in your headlines. Using Wh (What, when, why, who) words is also good. 

  1. READ GREAT WRITING

The thing about good writing is that it’s a process. You need to be in a good company to write well. If all the content you usually encounter is grammatically weak, your writing starts to reflect that. Start with reading the works of good writers. Train your brain to think differently.

Don’t forget to practice your blog writing alongside all the reading, and soon you’ll find your voice.

  1. ANSWER INDUSTRY-RELATED QUESTIONS

A great way to show your product knowledge is to answer the burning questions of your industry.  Look for popular forums for your industry and then engage with other contributors. A lot of people use popular platforms like Quora to answer questions and link their blog posts. Answering these questions will build your ‘authority’ within the industry. Just remember to do so in moderation, don’t be a spammer.

  1. MAKE CONNECTIONS

You can’t survive in a bubble on the internet. Try connecting with the blogosphere. Get yourself featured as a guest writer on a popular blog. Invite bloggers to contribute to your blog as a guest writer. Mention popular influencers in your industry to gain traction. You can also feature testimonials from market leaders on your blogs to kill two birds with one stone.

  1. INCORPORATE SEO TECHNIQUES

It’s a chore to incorporate keywords into your writing. It just doesn’t sit well with the idea of a free writer you have in your mind. But really, SEOs are one of the essential tools in your armory. A rule of thumb when working with SEO is not to overdo it. Try to use a moderate amount of keywords in your posts. SEO needs time to mature. Better yet, you can share unique artwork to create your specific user experience.

Most of your visitors might not return to your blog, but this may change if you add a subscription option. Create an email list and send new newsletters to your subscribers of recent posts. This method will increase traffic and may even lead to more shares and remember adding different sign-up forms and spell out the essential details. A general sign-up form is boring, and no-one wants to click on that. You can also offer free things like eBooks to your readers to bribe them into subscribing.
