Why You Should Have Art at Home

by Ester Adams
Art at Home

Australia has a vibrant and rich demographic. You can see such diversity in the history, culture, and, of course, the art. You can trace the art scene 40,000 years ago, back to its indigenous peoples. The influence of European art came to Australia when the colonists arrived in 1778. Interestingly though, many of the “artwork” during the initial settlements were mainly from natural history illustrators, soldiers, and other unknown people who probably drew or painted out of leisure. The first professional artist was John Lewin, who arrived in 1800.

Since then, Australia followed an art trend similar to that of the West, such as realism, impressionism, expressionism, and modernism. Today, Australian art reflects its experiences through various media of visual and performing arts. In particular, the canvas prints in Australia range from the art of the Aboriginal Australians to landscapes and wildlife, to contemporary art.

Why Art Matters Even Today

Today, during the COVID-19 pandemic, people find hope not just in scientists and healthcare workers, but also in artists. As the heroes of science and medicine toil in the labs and hospitals to save people’s bodies, the heroes of art toil in their craft to save their minds as they wait in anxiety for this pandemic to subside. Today, many are stuck at home because of physical distancing and quarantine. Everyone loves their home, but seeing the same thing again and again and literally, 24/7 now can start being bland. You can brighten things by having artwork on the walls.

Art Helps You Work Better

Because they cannot go out, many people are also working from home. There is a reason why many workplaces have artwork hanging on their walls. Art can affect your mood. Thus, it can affect your performance and productivity, and psychology has confirmed this. For example, the Deutsche Bank is one of the largest financial institutions in the world whose history dates back to 1870. Clearly, it is doing something right to maintain its professionalism and productivity. As it turns out, art is part of its tactics. The Deutsche Bank has around 55,000 art pieces, making the bank’s collection one of the largest in the world. The employees even have an app that tells them about the artwork.

Thus, instead of hunkering down with your computer in your makeshift office, why not enrich it by having some canvas prints Australia has from its arsenal of artists.

Art can Inspire Children

Being stuck at home also means having to spend more time with the kids if you have any. Yes, you may have unconditional love for your little ones, but sometimes you need some me-time. Children are like sponges of knowledge. Their developing minds are curious for every bit of information. Quench their thirst by having them observe art. The canvas prints in Australia are an excellent medium for your kids to learn, broaden their perceptions, and explore their creativity. They may try creating their own pieces. As they revel in art, you get some more time for yourself.

In these trying times, science may bring you back to normal, but art tries to maintain as much normalcy as the world previously had. As people spend more time at home, enrich your environment by surrounding yourself and your family with art. Doing so not only benefits you but also the artists of Australia.
